SP 10, known in Chinese as Xuehai (Sea of Blood), is located on the thigh’s medial aspect. To find it, flex the knee and measure 2 cun above the border of the mediosuperior of the patella, on the bulge of the medial portion of the quadriceps femoris muscle.
Indications:
SP 10 is used to address various health issues, including:
Irregular menstruation and uterine bleeding (metrorrhagia)
Skin conditions such as urticaria, eczema, and erysipelas
Functions:
This acupuncture point has several key functions:
Invigorates and moves the blood
Cools the blood
Benefits the skin
Regulates menstruation
Notes:
As the name suggests, Xuehai (Sea of Blood) is primarily associated with treating blood-related disorders, such as blood stasis and heat in the blood.
Clinical Applications:
SP 10 can be particularly beneficial for the following conditions:
Gynecological issues caused by blood heat, stasis, or deficiency, such as irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea (painful periods), amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), menstrual cramps, PMS, and uterine bleeding.
Skin problems resulting from hot blood or damp-heat, such as eczema and painful or hot sores.
Genital problems, including pain, swelling, and itching of the scrotum or genitals.
Additional Uses:
In the Tong Ren/Tam Healing System, SP 10 is employed to treat various blood-related issues, though the huatuo points of T1 and T7 are more commonly used.
While a single acupuncture point typically doesn't address an entire diagnostic pattern in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), SP 10 is a strong candidate for protocols targeting blood stagnation or liver blood stagnation.
