Series: How NLP and hypnosis can help resolve high blood pressure (Hypertension) - Article 3 of 4
A stealthy killer.
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a sneaky disease that can have a devastating effect on your mind and body, causing health problems closely related to the heart, cardiovascular system, as well as other organs such as the liver and kidneys. It is ranked as one of the main causes of death worldwide – and is no respecter of age.
There are several causes of hypertension, but very few symptoms. Research has suggested that medical issues aside, anxiety and stress are major contributors to blood pressure problems. Sometimes classic anxiety symptoms such as nervousness, a rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, and chest pain, may signify an anxiety disorder, and perhaps even high blood pressure.
If you have any of those symptoms, a visit to the doctor can give you an accurate diagnosis.
Can anxiety actually cause hypertension?
No – anxiety cannot cause chronic high blood pressure. However, it can lead to a short-term increase in blood pressure, and aggravate hypertension issues that you may already have. When you begin to feel anxious because of a stressful situation, your adrenaline and cortisol (stress hormones) levels rise, both of which may lead to an increase in blood pressure.
Fortunately, this increase is only of a temporary nature, and levels may well return to normal once you have calmed down. The key to keeping your blood pressure stable is to eliminate anxiety as much as possible from your life.
Can your high blood pressure issues cause you to have anxiety and stress?
Just as anxiety may sometimes cause a temporary spike in blood pressure, in the same way high blood pressure can sometimes cause a rise in anxious feelings. The anxious feelings are often characterised by shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, and changes in vision, all of which are related to issues of hypertension.
Any of these symptoms can raise anxiety, as well as result in depression.
An excellent way to deal with anxiety and stress which raises your risk of high blood pressure.
If you often suffer from episodes of high blood pressure that are caused by anxiety, treating the underlying anxiety disorder can help to keep your blood pressure at healthier levels.
A recommended way to eliminate anxiety from your life is my means of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) which can help to address problematic thoughts, feelings, and poor behaviours that contribute and to anxiety. Most of the negative thoughts, and the traumatic events are buried in the subconscious mind, this includes memories both good and bad.
NLP, combined with hypnotherapy, is able to access the subconscious mind, and by means of positive suggestions, the therapist will help you eliminate harmful thought patterns, and create a new mindset free of old habits and baggage which hold you back.
Medical recognition.
After intensive research, the medical fraternity have recommended that NLP and hypnosis is an effective treatment for treating anxiety which is contributing to your hypertension. Bearing in mind that hypertension is aggravated by anxiety, removing the anxiety will be a tremendous bonus to help keep your blood pressure under control, and restore your mental and physical well-being.
